- Small scale conflicts between different groups of ranchers with competing interests
- The Lincoln County War was fought between rival cattle kings L.G Murphy and John Chisum
- Born in 1848
- Arrested in 1871 for rustling (horse stealing) in Missouri
- Fled the sate
- Natural recruit for the forces of incorporation as he was a keen entrepreneur as well as an effective gunman
