        • stewardship

      • dominion
        • teaching that humans were given the power and authority to rule over the world
          • in order to manage the earth
        • "fill the earth and subdue it"
          • a minority of christians have interpreted this as they can do what they like with the earth
        • majority of christians believe that humans cannot do what they like to benefit themselves if it damages something that God has made
    • Islam
      • stewardship (khalifah)
        • god created the world and gave humans the responsibility of taking care of the planet
        • sunni and shi'a Muslims beliebe that people are stewards
          • "it is he who was made you successors on the earth"
          • it must be done in humility
        • stewards must look after the world for God and future generations and maintain the harmony and balance created
      • laws of his creation should not be altered
        • people are responsible to him for all their actions
        • "it is to God that everything in the heavens and earth belongs"
      • dominion
        • Islam doesn't promote the idea of humans having dominion (doing what they like with the world)
          • the world is seen as a place of worship - so damaging it is like damaging a mosque and is a sin
        • Islam stresses the importance of working with the rest of creation in a harmonious and sustainable way
      • nature reflects the glory form God - inspires awe and wonder - irresponsible behaviour that leads to damage of the environment is unacceptable
