- Nasser was very close to USSR and both countries backed each other

- Met in Paris to plan to attack the canal by land and then retreat
- They hoped that the Arabs would then retreat giving the British a chance to take control of the canal by bombing

- 29 Oct: Israeli para-troopers into the Sinai desert to then attack the Suez Canal
- 31 Oct: French and British aircraft bombed Egyptian airfields
- 5 Nov: Anglo-French airport units landed at port Said and Fuad. The Egyptians reacted by sinking ships and blocking the Canal
- 9 Nov: The Egyptians kept control
- USA's Reaction (President Eisenhower):
- Astonished that the US weren't informed about the British bombing of Egypt
- Eisenhower says that there will be no US involvement in the fighting. Therefore, the US were angered by the British desicion
- Outcomes for Israel
- A United-Nations Emergency force guarded the Egypt-Israel boarder.
- The UN persuaded Nasser to allow Israeli ships to pass through the Straight of Tiran
- Ten years of peace with Egypt gained in the Sinai
- Showed the world they were a power to be recognised
