  • The Sudetenland crisis.
    • Why did Hitler target it ?
      • It was in-between Germany and Czechoslova-kia and he saw invading it as the first step to overthrowing Czechoslovakia.
      • It was home to forts, railways and industries which could all be used in future wars because of all the factories. The Skoda factory built weapons.
    • Appeasement.
      • Britain and France could be obliged to protect Czechoslovakia and declare war on Germany but they didn't want to.
      • Chamberlain met Hitler in 1938 and said it would only be resolved if he got the Sudetenland. They met again and Hitler wanted it quicker but Chamberlain refused and it seemed war would break out.
    • Czechoslovakia- It was a good base to attack them from as it surrounded three sides. Owning the Sudetenland would make invasion easier.
    • German speakers- It was home to 3 million German speakers(20%). These people claimed they were being persecuted by the Czechs and Hitler needed to 'save' them.
