  • The structure of atoms
    • Atoms are the smallest part of an element that can exist.
    • Atoms are very small. Typical atoms have a radius of about 0.1nm.
    • Atoms are made from smaller particles called, protons, neutrons and electrons.
    • Atoms are made from smaller particles called protons, neutrons and electrons
    • Protons: In the nucleus, has a charge of +1 and a relative mass of 1.
    • Neutron: In the nucleus, has a charge of 0 and a relative mass of 1.
    • Electron: Outside the nucleus in energy levels (shells), has a charge of -1 and a relative mass 1/1840.
    • The protons and neutrons are contained in a ting central nucleus.
    • The nucleus is about 10 00 times smaller than the atom.
    • The electron move around the nucleus in energy levels (also called shells)
