  • The Solar System
    • Planets
      • There are 8 planets orbiting the sun
        • They orbit in ellipses
      • Order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
      • Asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter
      • Plants reflect light and are much closer to the sun that any other stars
    • What else is there?
      • Asteroids and Comets
        • Are left over from the formation of the universe
        • Asteroids are made from lumps of rubble and rock
        • Comets are balls of rock, dust and ice
          • They orbit the sun in elongated ellipses
          • When the ice melts as it nears the sun it leaves a ail of gas and debris
    • How old?
      • Around 5 thousand million years
      • Formed over a long period
        • From clouds of dust and gas
      • One cloud started to get squeezed tightly
        • Once particles a bit closer gravity took over
          • Cloud stared to collapse in on itself when it got too dense
