  • The Sanctity Of Life Principle.
    • The sanctity of life principle derives from two main texts: Genesis 1:26-27 & Genesis 2:7
      • In the second text it says that God 'breathed into his nostrils the breath of life'. Since this method is is only used on humans we must be the only beings with souls.
      • The first text says that humans are born 'In the image of God' If we are created in God's own image then we must be sacred to him.
    • There is a strong and weak sanctity of life principle.
      • The strong sanctity of life principle holds that personhood begins at conception as all necessary genetic material is present. As the church points out: "it would never be made human if it were not human already".
      • The weak sanctity of life principles says that there are exceptions and times where abortion is allowed e.g. the mother is extremely young or was *****.
    • The principle holds that human life has intrinsic value which means something that has value for its own sake.
    • To say that life has sanctity means it is holy, or sacred to God.
