  • The periodic table
    • Atom are represented by symbols
      • For example: carbon is 'C' and oxygen is 'O'
    • The periodic table puts  elements with similar properties together
      • All elements in a group have the same number of electrons in their outer shell
        • For example, group 1 elements are Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Fr. They are all metals and they all react the same way
    • The top number of the element in the tabe is the mass number. This is the total number of protons and neutrons
    • The bottom number is the atomic number. This is the number of protons and the number of electrons
    • All of group 7 are non-metals
    • Group 1 and 2 are both reactive metals
