  • The Models of Memory
    • The Multi Store Model
      • This model was created by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968)
      • They believed that memory consisted of three stores
        • Sensory Register
          • Duration-milliseconds Capacity-    very large
        • Short Term Memory (STM)
          • Duration-     18 seconds Capacity-  very limited 7+/-2
        • Long Term Memory (LTM)
          • Duration-unlimited Capacity-unlimited
      • Coding of information is different for each store
        • Sensory Register
          • Can be any it depends on the sense
        • STM
          • Acoustically
        • LTM
          • Semantically
    • The Working Memory Model
      • This model was created by Baddeley and Hitch (1974)
      • They believed that memory is not just one store but a number of different stores.
      • The store focused on STM only and believed it was not a unitary store.
      • There are four main parts of the model.
        • Central executive
          • It is a key component as it directs attention to tasks
          • It has a limited capacity
        • Visuospatial sketchpad
          • It has limited capacity
          • Visual = what something looks like
          • Spatial = relationship between things
          • Visuo cache (store)     Inner scribe-spatial relationships
        • Episodic buffer
          • It is general storage
          • It has limited capacity
        • Phonological loop
          • It has limited capacity
          • Phonological store - holds words you hear
          • Articulatory process - holds words you see/hear and silently repeats
