      • Makes sure that people with mental health issues are not being discriminated against.
      • Doesn’t compare against physical health.

      • The Act ensure that PWUS with mental health issues are not responsible for their condition.
      • Protects the right of people who require mental health treatment.
    • Weakness
      • Sectioning may cause stigma towards the individual.
      • Does not take into account and individuals Human Rights.
      • New forms of community care are not considered
    • Needs of the PWUS
      • Emotional support and care from carers.
      • Want to be treated as an 'ordinary' person.
      • May need the PWUS to be 'sectioned' so they can be treated
    • Why the Act was needed.
      • Give clear guidelines of what to do and how to treat someone if they are 'sectioned'.
      • Gives practitioners the right to make decisions for the PWUS.
