      • Education is an ideological state apparatus which is used by the ruling class to brainwash students by manipulating the way people think which operates in two ways
        • It transmits a general ideology which states that capitalism is the best and most natural for society while portraying other societal organisations and irrational and bad
        • Encourages individuals to passively accept their future roles which produces a compliant and obedient workforce
    • Bowles and Gintis   Hidden   curriculum
      • Bowels and Gintis state that school mirrors the workplace, this is a correspondence principle and it prepares children to accept their future exploitation as the proletariat through the hidden curriculum which has several similarities between school and the workplace
        • Passive subservience of pupils to teachers which corresponds to passive subservience of workers to managers
        • Acceptance of hagiarchy which corresponds to authority of managers
        • Motivation by external rewards corresponding to being motivated by wages not by how much you enjoy the job
        • Education transmits the myth of meritocracy when in reality it is an illusion blaming the working class for their own failure
    • Critiques
      • Paul Willis  Not all pupils are passive only supports neo Marxism due to anti school subcultures
      • Critical subjects are taught in schools such as sociology
      • Deterministic not every w.c student fails
      • Outdated since the education system and workplace offer  a lot more in current society

      • Children of middle class parents will have more assets which help them succeed in education such as
        • Social capital
          • Social connections which could benefit a child's education, its not what you know its who you know
        • Economic Capital
          • Money which can be invested in private tuition, educational resources
        • Cultural capital
          • Knowledge, behaviour and attitudes and cultural experience
    • Support
      • Private schools give mc an advantage
      • Wc students are at a disadvantage due to maternal and cultural deprivation
