- THE MARSHALL PLAN
- Truman backed up policy of containment with the Marshall plan
- Communism won support in poor countries with economic problems
- Many European countries suffered from WW2 and these were the countries the USA supported so they wouldn't turn to communism
- This plan was called EUROPEAN REVOVERY- aid was given such as money, technology and food
- As a return, these countries would by US good and invest in US industries
- Stalin didn't trust USA and didn't want to show them how week the Soviet Unions economy was
- By 1953 £17 billion was invested in Marshall Aid
