- some MPs began to think about supporting Charles because they thought if the bishops and the national church were abolished there would be chaos

- parliment passed a set of demands called the nineteen propositions. Mps who supported the king felt that parliment had gonne to far. in june parliment ordered each county to prepare and army so did the king each side was prepared for war
