  • The effects of Prohibition
    • People weren't allowed to make and distribute alcohol, but you could drink it. For a year before prohibition came into place, everyone stocked up
    • There wasn't enough money to fund prohibition agents
      • Only 1500 across the whole country
      • easily bribed
    • There were loopholes in the official Volstead act
    • Speakeasies were opened: these were secret clubs that provided people with alcohol
    • People spent more money on family than alcohol. Increase in wealth
    • Police officers, judges and other authority figures drank alcohol away from the prohibition officers
