  • The Convention Parliament
    • Sat from Apr-Dec 1660 and oversaw the restoration. There was no a lot of royalist support as all other options had been shown to fail
    • Elections
      • 100 new MPs were known royalists so the Presbyterians didn't have the majority
      • The House of Lords also had a royalist majority as those who had come of age since the execution were allowed to sit
    • Business
      • Parliaments main task was to agree to the Restoration of Charles II
        • On the 8th May, they declared that Charles had been King since the 30th Jan 1649 and that Charles could return to London
      • Most of the legislation passed under the Common-wealth and Protectorate was declared null
    • Charles II, 1630-1685
      • He fought for the Royalists in the Civil War but was forced to flee in 1646
      • He was declared King by the Scots in 1649, and returned in 1650 to fight after making an alliance
        • He was once again forced back into exile in Europe after losing in Worcester in 1651
      • He spent another nine years in exile before unexpectantly being restored in 1660
