    • Compounds of some metals burn with a characteristic colour
    • Lithium produces a crimson flame
    • Sodium produces a yellow flame
    • Potassium produces a lilac flame
    • Calcium produces a red flame
    • Barium produces a green flame
    • Dip a clean wire loop into a sample of the compound and put the loop in the blue part of the Bunsen burner flame.
      • Make sure that the loop is clean by dipping it into hydrochloric acid and rinsing it with distilled water
