  • SUPREME GOODNESS
    • The Euthyphro Dilemma: 'is something good because God wills it or does he will it because it is good?'
      • 1ST LEMMA: If something is good because he wills it, what is wrong can become right. Therefore, morality is arbitrary. God is good is therefore a tautology.
      • 2ND LEMMA: If God wills what is good, morality is independent of God. Therefore he must be bound by it as he can only do good things.
    • Morality is arbitrary: morality is dependent om God, however his love is the standard of morality so as love is arbitrary, morality must be too.
    • Goodness: it is not an analytic truth that God is good, but goodness is the same as what God wills. We need an independent standard of goodness to judge his will as the same.
