  • STUDYING THE BRAIN
    • EEG
      • + safe +diagnosis eg epilepsy +detects stages of sleep, Dement et al +millisecond so very accurate
      • - can't see where the neural activity is coming from in the brain
      • Measures brainwaves (neural activity) via electrodes placed on the scalp. Detects abornmalities
    • fMRI
      • + no radiation + high resolution pictures eg for Broca's / Wernicke's area
      • - very expensive      - only works if the person remains completely still
      • Blood(oxygen) rushes to areas of the brain when it's active. fMRI detects oxygenation
    • RRP
      • looks as the brain's reactions to different stimuli
      • + if  a person is telling a lie, the ERP will show that the person telling a lie because it will show association through neural activity +millisecond +looks at the cognitive perspective, why individuals react in different ways to different stimuli
      • - isn't standardised to results cannot be confirmed
    • Post Mortem
      • Analysis of the physical brain after death
      • + evidence of earlier work eg Broca's area / Wernicke's are                + helps further hypothesise biopsychology
      • - damage to the brain may be abrnormal because of post death environment eg brain decay            - may lack consent from patient
