  • Stem cells contain the same genes, but not all of them are expressed because not all are active.
    • Genes are activated under the right conditions.
      • Others are inactivated.
        • mRNA id only transcribed from active genes.
          • The mRNA from active genes is translated into proteins.
            • The proteins modify the cell. They determine the cell structure and control cell processes.
              • Changes to the cell cause them to become specialised.
                • The changes are difficult to reverse - the cell stays specialised
