- Static Electricity
- Build-up of static = caused by FRICTION
- When certain insulating materials are rubbed together - ELECTRONS will go from one to the other
- = positive static charge on one & negative on the other
- Which way the electrons are transferred depends on the materials involved
- e.g. polythene & acetate rod rubbed with a cloth
- Acetate, electrons go from ROD TO CLOTH
- Polythene, electrons go from CLOTH TO ROD
- e.g. polythene & acetate rod rubbed with a cloth
- Which way the electrons are transferred depends on the materials involved
- = positive static charge on one & negative on the other
- When certain insulating materials are rubbed together - ELECTRONS will go from one to the other
- Only the ELECTRONS MOVE
- Positive charge is caused by electrons being TAKEN AWAY
- Negative charge is caused by electrons being ADDED
- Like charges REPEL & opposite charges ATTRACT
- Charges move easily through conductors
- Build-up of static = caused by FRICTION
- Only the ELECTRONS MOVE
- Positive charge is caused by electrons being TAKEN AWAY
- Negative charge is caused by electrons being ADDED
