  • Static Electricity
    • Build-up of static = caused by FRICTION
      • When certain insulating materials are rubbed together - ELECTRONS will go from one to the other
        • = positive static charge on one & negative on the other
          • Which way the electrons are transferred depends on the materials involved
            • e.g. polythene & acetate rod rubbed with a cloth
              • Acetate, electrons go from ROD TO CLOTH
              • Polythene, electrons go from CLOTH TO ROD
    • Only the ELECTRONS MOVE
      • Positive charge is caused by electrons being TAKEN AWAY
      • Negative charge is caused by electrons being ADDED
    • Like charges REPEL & opposite charges ATTRACT
    • Charges move easily through conductors
  • Only the ELECTRONS MOVE
    • Positive charge is caused by electrons being TAKEN AWAY
    • Negative charge is caused by electrons being ADDED
