  • Standard enthalpy of neutralisation
    • Experimental method to find entahlpy of neutralisation of an acid
      • Using a pipette, measure 25cm3 of 1 moldm-3 solution into an expanded polysytene cup
        • Measure temp of acid
          • Measure temp of alkali (usually NaOH solution of conc 1.1moldm-3
            • Calculate the mean of the two temperatures
              • Measure out 25cm3 of the alkali using a pipette and add it to the acid solution
                • Stir the mixture with the thermometer and measure the max temp reached
    • Heat produced = heat produced/number of moles
    • Sources of error
      • Heat absorbed by the polysytene cup and by the thermometer
