- Stage 4 - Multiple
- Around 9/12 months old
- The baby becomes increasingly independent and forms several attachments
- By one year the child has formed secondary attachments e.g. father/mother/siblings/grandparents
- Stage 2 - Beginnings
- Around 4 months old
- Infant begin to distinguish primary and secondary care-givers
- They will accept care from anyone
- They do not yet display stranger anxiety - general sociability
- Stage 3 - Discriminate
- Around 7 months old
- The baby looks to a particular person for protection, comfort and security
- The baby shows stranger anxiety and separation anxiety
- This is good as an attachment has been formed
- Stage 1 - Indiscriminate
- The baby is not predisposed to a particular care-giver
- Babies respond equally to all care-givers
- Reciprocity and interactional synchrony form the first realtionships
- Up to 2 Months old
