  • Spirit Burner Calorimetry
    • used to calculate enthalpy changes of combustion
    • Substance being heated/ cooled (usually known volume of water): placed into a beaker with a thermometer
      • Spirit burner placed underneath to heat
        • spirit burner containing the fuel is weighed
      • initial temperature of water measured
    • Spirit burner is burnt, water continually stirred. Flame extinguished after a few mins.
    • Reweigh spirit burner; record final temperature
