  • SPARTACIST REVOLT - JANUARY 1919 RADICAL LEFT WING
    • COMMUNIST - wanted a real social revolution
    • ROSA LUXEMBURG AND KARL LIEBKNECHT - LEADERS
    • Attempted a revolution in Berlin
    • 5TH JANUARY 1919 - captured the headquarters of the government newspaper and telegraph burueu
    • Badly planned and they had no support from other left wing groups
    • Easily crushed by the Freikorps - by 15th January 100 Spartacists killed and 13 Freikorps
    • LEADERS - brutally murdered
    • FREIKORPS (ex-army) - helped Ebert and the government crush left-wing uprisings over the next 4 months
      • EBERT - put his governemnt in the hands of the untrustworthy army and Freikorps, undermining the positon of the Social Demorcrats
