- Some basic cell facts
- A cell is the basic unit of life, from which larger structures such as tissue and organs are made
- Unicellular organisms, such as bacteria, consist of just a single cell
- Multicellular organisms consist of many cells - humans are made from an estimated 50 trillion cells
- Unicellular organisms, such as bacteria, consist of just a single cell
- All cells have certain common features and structures called organelles
- Basic animal cell (eg. human cheek cell)
- Cytoplasm
- Cytoplasm - "jelly like" - reaction centre - where reactions happen
- Cell membrane
- Nucleus
- Mitochonarion (respiration - make energy)
- Cytoplasm
- Basic plant cell
- Cell membrane
- Cell membrane - Controls what enters/ leaves cell (oxygen/ glucose in) (carbon dioxide out) - barrier
- Cell membrane
- Cell membrane - Controls what enters/ leaves cell (oxygen/ glucose in) (carbon dioxide out) - barrier
- Vacuole
- Vacuole - store of salts and sugars
- Nucleus
- Nucleus - control cell activities - contains DNA
- Nucleus
- Nucleus - control cell activities - contains DNA
- Chloroplasts
- Cell wall
- Cell wall - strength
- Cytoplasm
- Cytoplasm - "jelly like" - reaction centre - where reactions happen
- Mitochondrion
- Cell membrane
- Three basic parts - nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane
- Different functions - specialized
- Different shapes and sizes
