- 1991 President overthrown - country in chaos.
- Famine as consequence of conflict killed 500k.
- In recent years, linked to ISIS and piracy

- Part of UN - sent troops in in 1992 to monitor ceasefire but withdrew in 95
- UK Department for International Development - works with Somali Government to provide healthcare and food services etc.

- 2013 UK Gov announced troops would be sent in - combat human rights abuse.
