    • Privatisation of education meant the transfer of business, industry or service from public to private ownership/ control.
    • Education Reform Act 1988 - introduced the importance of competition and choice in education. there were six elements.
  • Globalisation
    • Education will produce workers that are able to compete in the global economy,
    • Schools now compete in global, not national league tables.
  • Free schools - set up by organisations or individuals.
    • More choice in the type of education children have.
    • No need for teachers to qualified (students could be taught by untrained people).
  • Abolishing selectgion at age 11.
    • Comprehen-sive schools
      • Educating all children in the same regardless of class, ethnicity, gender or ability.
