    • Clarke 1976 SKINHEADS
      • Represented an exaggerated version of the working class  masculinity. More manual workers. Attitude was aggressive, racist.
        • Youths saw working class as under threat due to economic conditions (form of restitance)
          • dressed in steal cap boots, bald head and overalls
            • dressed in work related attire
    • Jefferson (1976) Teddy Boys
      • 1950's general evidence that they didn't do well at school and with only dead ends as futures to look forward to.
        • with no where to go often hung around 9n cafes and local shops
          • Often had pride in their apperance with wearing suit jackers (often dressed like the middle classes)
    • Hebidge (1979) Mods
      • WC class more affluent group, who used style to create a resistance against MC
        • wanted to represent MC       in an different way , addressed life as everything had to be perfect
    • Hebridge (1979) Punks
      • reused everyday objects and put them together in a new way e.g. incorporated safety pins into clothes
        • Emerged as a resistance against the dominance of the mainstream media & fashion industry.
          • Attracted  WC youths/ collage students as they were attracted to the energy of it.
      • Punks wanted to stand out and not fit in to society norms and values
        • Often used music to express themselves and saw it as attacking mainstream music
    • The CCCS
      • Mostly focused on social class (neo-marxists)
      • CCCS -- Social class and feelings of deprivation and frustration result in people forming subcultures
      • Knew little about youths and do not follow a particular subculture
      • Exaggerate inequalities in social class
