    • Gender
      • Gender is the teaching of norms and values (what is acceptable behavior) based on your sex (what reproductive organs you have)
        • Many people think that women are stereotyped based on their gender to only be allowed into certain jobs. There are now laws to try to end discrimination in the workplace.
    • Relationships
      • If your parents did not do well at school, they may not expect you too.
        • Education/ Employment
          • High educational achievement can lead to high self esteem
          • Exams/school work may cause stress or depression
          • A stimulating job providing a good income can improve self esteem, self concept, and confidence.
      • Friendships are important as they help deal with emotional problems and  provide social support.
      • Friends can sometimes be a bad influence
    • Education/ Employment
      • High educational achievement can lead to high self esteem
      • Exams/school work may cause stress or depression
      • A stimulating job providing a good income can improve self esteem, self concept, and confidence.
    • Ethnicity, Race and Religion
      • People may feel comforted by the fact that they belong to a group/ community.
      • People may also face discrimination
    • Life experiences
      • Birth, marriage, divorce and bereavement will all have effects on someones growth and development
