  • ALCOHOL IS A TOXIC DRUG
    • LIVER
      • After an alcoholic drink, the ethanol is absorbed into the blood from the gut and passes easily into body tissues including the brain
      • CIRROHOSIS-A disease that destroys the liver tissue. The active live cells are replaced with scar tissue that cannot carry out vital functions.
      • Alcohol is a carcinogen so heavy drinkers have an increased  risk of liver cancer which is MALIGNANT. It travels fast and is difficult to treat
      • The developing liver cannot cope with alcohol, so the development of the brain and body of the unborn baby can be badly effected especially in the early stages of pregnancy.
        • BRAIN

      • Alcohol is very addictive
        • In small amounts alcohol makes  people relaxed, cheerful and reduces inhibitions
        • Larger amounts lead to lack of judgement. If the dose is to high it can sometimes lead to unconsciousness, coma and death
