- SLT
- Assumptions
- Behaviour is learnt through experience and observation
- Vicarious reinforcement-we learn by seeing how others are being reinforced , if punished less likely to imitate, praised more likely
- Assumes mental processes thought, attention, motivation, memory are important to how we learn
- We dont always imitate the behaviour we observe, the social conditions need to be right
- Strengths
- Different to behaviourism because it says we have some free will because we think some things through
- Better at explaining human behaviour, behaviourism can expl animal behaviour
- Weaknesses
- SLT ignores biology, says we learn purely through nurture
- Doesnt explain all behaviour e.g may not observe criminal behaviour but become a criminal
