  • Self-Report: Questionnaire
    • Respondents record answers to a pre-set list of questions, usually concerning behaviour, opinions and attitudes
    • STRENGTH
      • large amounts of information can be gathered in a short period. 
      • Postal questionnaire can gain relatively large samples for a small cost, while on-line questionnaire are cost-free.
      • Lack of investigator effects - they can be completed without researchers present
      • questionnaire are standardised, they are easy to replicate to check reliability
    • WEAKNESS
      • Misunderstandings of questions  or not find the answer they would like to tick due to the use of forced choice closed questions.
      • Biased samples - questionnaire are suitable for Ps who are willing and able to spend time completing them. These people are not representative of the general population.
      • Low response rate -  they aren’t efficient
      • closed questions are not suitable for sensitive issues requiring detailed understanding
      • Ps may not be honest in order to give answers expected of them or to show themselves in the best possible light (social desirability bias)
