    • Impact on forests
      • Prolonged drought causes forest stress, meaning younger trees die
    • Impacts on wetlands
      • Wetlands cover 10% of the Earth's landscape, they consist of marshes; saturated land
      • Wetlands are important as temporary stores in the water cycle, and also have high biological productivity, supporting a variety of wildlife
      • Drought means limited precipitation, meaning the vegetation on the wetlands will deteriorate
        • Less infiltration/percolation will cause the water table to fall, reducing water in groundwater stores
      • 1991 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands has listed 1800 wetlands of international importance to try and conserve them
