- 2A.7: Erosional processes
- Subaerial processes
- Freeze thaw
- 1. Water seeps into cracks in rock
- 2. Freezes when temp falls and expands by 9%
- 3. Process is repeated, eventually rock shatters
- Mass movement
- Movement of material downslope due to gravity
- Freeze thaw
- Plucking/quarrying
- 1. Meltwater freezes part of the underlying bedrock to the base of the glacier
- 2. Any loosened rock fragments are then 'plucked' away as the glacier moves forward
- Surface is left very uneven where rocks have been 'plucked'
- Basal melting
- Glacier moves when meltwater lubricates base of the glacier
- Untitled
- Abrasion
- Large rocks carried below the ice scratch the bedrock and form striations
- Surface is worn away overtime, smooth surface
- Entrainment- surface sediment is incorporated into flow via erosion
- Subaerial processes
