  • Science Autumn term 1
    • food groups
      • carbohydrates
        • gives energy
          • potatoes, cereals and breads
      • protein
        • repair and growth to body
          • fish, meat and eggs
      • vitamins and minerals
        • helps body work properly
          • fruit and veg
      • fats and oils
        • acts as energy store
          • butter, olive oil and deep fried foods
      • fibre
        • cleans our digestive system
          • bran and cereal
      • water
        • needed for chemical reactions in body
          • water or any juice
    • the digestive system
      • mouth
        • produces saliva
      • teeth
        • grinds food into smaller pieces
      • saliva
        • makes food most so easier to digest also adds enzymes
      • oesophogus
        • transports food from mouth to stomach
      • stomach
        • holds hydrochlolric acid which breaks food even smaller
      • small intestine
        • takes nutrients from chyme (pre- faeces) into blood
      • enzymes
        • help move food though the various zones of the system
      • pancreas
        • makes enzymes and adds to chyme
      • large intestine
        • takes the water out of chyme and adds to blood this then cause the chyme to become faeces
      • rectum
        • where faeces is held
      • anus
        • where faeces comes out of the system
    • Heat transfer
      • by conduction
        • metal is a good conductor
        • conduction can only take place in solids
        • the particles in conduction vibrate which causes the vibration to spread
      • by convection
        • convection can happen in liquids and gases
        • convection is a current that heats then cools
        • convection is in every day life hot air balloon and radiators
      • by radiation
        • this can happen when there are no particles.
        • this moves in waves and in all directions
        • radiation adsorbs and reflects the waves so black things absorb heat and waves and white reflects heat  and waves
