        • hallucinations, distorted thoughts, disorganised speech
    • negative symptoms
      • withdrawal or lack of function in a normal person
        • lack of emotions, apathy, socially withdrawn
    • symptoms must be present from 1-6 months
      • symptoms can't be the cause of organic brain diseases, depression or drug/ alcohol intoxication
    • age of onset
      • men: early adult life
      • women: 5-10 years later than men
