  • SAMPLING METHODS
    • RANDOM SAMPLING
      • Every member of target population has an equal chance of being chosen e.g. names in a hat
      • Unbiased - researcher doesn't control who is being chosen
      • Hard to do with a large target population
    • OPPORTUNITY SAMPLING
      • Participants are selected from whoever is available at the time
      • Quick, easy, ethical
      • Not very representative - only have a small section of community
    • STRATIFIED SAMPLING
      • Sample is a proportional representation of the target population
      • Representative if done properly
      • Time consuming, difficult
    • VOLUNTEER / SELF-SELECTED SAMPLING
      • Participants select themselves
      • Motivated participants
        • Motivation may make them behave differently
      • May have special qualities
