- Role of Women in Homesteading
- Women prepared food and stored it (e.g. smoked meat, and dried vegetables so they lasted all of Winter)
- Undertook housework. There was no wood for fuel, and no where to buy candles and soaps. Women collected "buffalo chips" for fuel and made their own candles and soaps
- Girls helped their mothers with food and housework
- The wives were the "family doctors" and "teachers" in their spare time.
