  • Role of Women in Homesteading
    • Women prepared food and stored it (e.g. smoked meat, and dried vegetables so they lasted all of Winter)
    • Undertook housework. There was no wood for fuel, and no where to buy candles and soaps. Women collected "buffalo chips" for fuel and made their own candles and soaps
    • Girls helped their mothers with food and housework
    • The wives were the "family doctors" and "teachers" in their spare time.
