  • Responses
    • Central nervous system (CNS)
      • Brain, Spinal Cord- through the neurones
        • FAST RESPONSE!
    • Endocrine system
      • Glands, Hormones-through the bloodstream
        • SLOW-ER RESPONSE
    • Voluntary/ concious response
      • Stimulus- Object or change in environment that triggers response
        • Receptor- in the sense organs. Stimulated by the stimulus.
          • Sensory neurone- Carries electrical impulse to the CNS
            • SYNAPSE TO A RELAY NEURONE
              • Relay neurone- In the CNS where the response is coordinated
                • SYNAPSE TO A MOTOR NEURONE
                  • Motor neurone- Carries electrical impulse from the CNS to the effector
                    • Effector- e.g. Muscle or gland that completes the decided response
                      • Response- as a result of the stimulus. The action that is completed
    • SYNAPSE- Gaps between neurones- chemicals diffuse across the gap. Synapses are the slowest part of the response
    • Involuntary response- Reflex actions are much faster than voluntary responses, because no decision is involved
      • Stimulated receptor
        • Sensory neurone
          • Relay neurone in spinal cord
            • motor neurone
              • Effector
  • Brain, Spinal Cord- through the neurones
    • FAST RESPONSE!
  • Voluntary= Brain & Spinal Cord
  • Involuntary= Brain or spinal cord (which ever is closest to the stimulus)
