- Research Methods Part 2
- Self Reports (Closed Questions)
- Strengths; produces quantitative data which makes it more reliable and replicable, easily presented in a graph or table
- Weaknesses; lacks any meaning or insight which reduces the validity, data may not be valid as they are forced to pick the closest answer they think if right, social desirability
- Self Reports (Open Questions)
- Strengths; collects qualitative data which provides insight, tell us exactly how a person feels about something/a topic which increases the validity
- Weaknesses; difficult to analyse and make comparisons which reduces the reliability as each response will be different, data may not be valid as they may give socially desirable answers
- Structured Interview
- Weaknesses; they are not flexible. lack detail as mainly close questions are asked
- Strengths; very replicable as you have a list of pre-determined questions
- Semi-Structured Interview
- Strengths; flexible, collects both quantitative and qualitative data
- Weaknesses; difficult to compare answers
- Unstructured Interview
- Weaknesses; harder to analyse and compare qualitative data, harder to replicate which decreases the reliability
- Strengths; very flexible, generate qualitative data which gives more insight, increased validity as you get a deeper understanding of why they gave the answer that they did
- Self Reports (Closed Questions)
