- COMPETING PERSPECTIVES OF REPRESENTATION
- DELEGATE MODEL
- acting on behalf of others on the basis of clear instruction
- TRUSTEE MODEL
- Burkean model represent interests of constituents but free to vote based on expertise and conscience. Strong elitist. Better knowledge of state affairs.
- CONSTITUENCY REPRESENTATION
- Around 30 Tory MPs to go against Brexit bill on the basis of constituency representation 2017.
- PARTY REPRESENTATION
- party funding is exchanged for loyalty in parliament. MPs like Philip Davies are a particular nuisance for party and are therefore unfavourable
- FUNCTIONAL REPRESENTATION
- suggests parliament should be descriptive. Not really like that: non whites are only 6 percent of MPs (13 percent of actual population), 29 percent are women (50 percent of actual population).
- DELEGATE MODEL
