  • Renewable Energy Sources
    • Solar
      • Advantages
        • It doesn't directly omit greenhouse gases
        • Sunlight will never run out
        • Sunlight is free
      • Disadvantages
        • High initial costs
        • Takes up a lot of space
        • Relies on Sun which can be hidden by clouds. The sun does not always shine in the UK
      • Solar energy is radiant light and heat which is harnessed by technologies which turn it into electricity. It is very clean and does little damage to the environment and ecosystems
    • Wind
      • Advantages
        • Off shore wind speeds are high as there are no obstacles.
        • Unlimited, free resource
        • It is clean as it does not pollute anything.
      • Wind energy is where the wind, onshore or offshore is harnessed and used to turn turbines which generates electricity
      • Disadvantages
        • Wind facilities are expensive
        • Not visually Pleasing
        • Can be dangerous to flying animals.
    • Bio fuels
      • Bio fuels are  any fuel that is derived from biomass, e.g. plant or algae material or animal waste. Since such feed stock material can be replenished readily, bio fuel is considered a source of renewable energy
      • Advantages
        • Will not run out as we can grow, raise more.
        • Reduces Carbon Emissions.
        • Needs labour so creates Jobs
      • Disadvantages
        • Uses up land which could be used for food
        • Cannot be easily used for things like cars
    • Hydro Electric
      • Rainwater flows through a dam where the kinetic energy is converted to electricity.
      • Advantages
        • Very clean with almost no emissions.
        • It is flexible as you can adjust the water flow to meet demand
        • It is very safe and rarely needs maintenance.
      • Disadvantages
        • There are not many rivers suited to have dams
        • Can be environmental consequences when changing the natural flow of the river.
        • Can be unreliable with droughts etc.
    • Tidal
      • Tidal energy is where the tides and currents of the sea turn turbines and run generators to make electricity.
      • Advantages
        • Tides are predictable and will never stop.
        • Long Lifespan
        • Takes up little space
      • Disadvantages
        • Really Expensive
        • Have to be close to land
        • Impacts the sea environment
