  • Christian ethics give a variety of views on business ethics. The Bible has many teachings about the fair treatment of others that can easily be applied to business : the OT includes laws about honesty and fairness in business. The NT contains teachings about how to treat others, sharing with those in need etc.
    • Religious ethics/ Business ethics
      • The Protestant work ethic sees wealth as a good thing and as stewards of the world we should work to generate wealth to support our families.
        • This view has been used to support capitalism and a free market economy, but at the same time business people are encouraged to support the poor through charitable giving.
      • The Catholic tradition has always looked to the idea of the common good and has condemned any selfish pursuit of wealth that ignores justice/needs of the poorer in society.

  • Another approach is situation ethics with its felixible appraoch to business ethics. Agape (love) is the only rule, so a follower of this would reject rules like 'never spy on other companies.'
    • But making agape the only rule does not mean doing everything possible to make a profit/be a successful business, and does mean treating all stakeholders in a business fairly.
