- Reliability
- Extent to which the mesurment of a particular behaviour is consistent
- If the research can be easily repeated and produce similar results
- External reliability
- TEST RETEST- Giving the same test to the same participant on a different occasion, after they 'forget' the Qs.Reliable IF results correlate
- Measures consistency from one occasion to another. (eg.different day/lab/time)
- Internal Reliability
- SPLIT-HALF method - randomly choosing half of the answers from a test and comparing it with the other half. Reliable IF there is a + correlation.
- extemt to which a test is consistent withing itself (eg/ questionnaiters should be measuring the sme thing.)
- Improving researcher reliability
- INTRA RATER- consistency of a researcher's behaviour. SHould produce similar results
- INTER RATER- consistency between DIFFERENT researchers on the same study.
- Improved by: training observers & ensuring behaviour categories are operaionalised
- Extent to which the mesurment of a particular behaviour is consistent
