    • DEFINITION: Measures if you can afford goods which fall within the 'normal expectation' of a society
      • PROBLEM WITH DEFINITION: measure of inequality, not poverty
        • E.g Is it the 'norm' to have a family care
        • Can't compare poverty in different countries as the 'norm' will always be different

        • DEPRIVATION INDEX
          • Asked if respondents lacked things such as: warm waterproof coat; bath/shower; cooked breakfast.
            • Those who lacked 4+ items were at risk of relative poverty
