- Restrictions on use e.g. DDT banned except where malaria mosquitoes are
- Use of non-persistent pesticides so they don't become concentrated
- Use of more specific pesticides e.g. pyrethoids
- Use of systematic pesticides - absorbed by crop and transported in plant sap so aren't leached
- However can be consumed by humans if still present when crop is eaten
- Biological control - using predators of pests, barrier crops, sterile-male techniques and crop rotation
- GM or selectively bred pest resistant crops
- Can breed with wild varieties and cause mutations
- Better application techniques - less spray drift by spraying on calm days, even coverage of sprays with smaller droplets
