- Definition:
- Conducted in the everyday environment of the participant.
- IV occurs naturally and is not manipulated.
- Strengths:
- Very high ecological validity due to natural environment.
- Less chance of demand characteristics as they are not aware they are participants.
- Good for use in situations where manipulating the IV would be unethical.
- Limitations:
- No control over extraneous variables which may affect the results. Reduces reliability.
- Can be more expensive and time consuming.
