        • ANAL STAGE, 1 TO 3 YEARS, ANUS
          • Children get pleasure from bowel movements, start to learn independence e.g. potty training

                        • This final stage will only be reached if all the others are too.
    • 3 parts to personality
      • The id.
        • Present from birth, no rational thought. Seeks pleasure. Impulsive, selfish, instinct.
          • If too strong, it can make you lose control, be aggressive, lead to inhibited sexual behaviour
      • The Ego
        • Develops around age 2 to 3. Realise that immediate pleasure is not always possible. Middleman. Seeks pleasure but realistic ways to get it.
          • If too weak, either extreme could take over
      • The Supergeo
        • Rationaliser/conscience. Develops age 3 to 5. Makes you feel guilty. Tells you what is right or wrong.
          • If too weak, may not feel guilty.
    • 3 levels of consciousness
      • Conscious level
        • Thoughts and perceptions right now
      • Pre-conscious level
        • Memories and knowledge
      • Unconscious level
        • Immoral urges, violent motives, selfish needs, unacceptable sexual desires
