- Proteins and Mutations (B3)
- Different cells produce different proteins
- Examples of Proteins are - collagen insulin haemoglobin
- All proteins are made of long chains of amino acids joined together
- Protein have different functions. some functions are:
- Structural proteins used to build cells and tissues, e.g collagen
- Hormones. which carry messages to control a reaction, e.g insulin controls blood sugar levels
- Carrier proteins, e.g haemoglobin, which carries oxygen
- Enzymes
- Structural proteins used to build cells and tissues, e.g collagen
- Examples of Proteins are - collagen insulin haemoglobin
- Enzymes are proteins molecules that speed up a chemical reaction. each enzyme works best at a particular temperature
- All enzymes have special area somewhere on the molecules called an active site
- Different cells produce different proteins
