preventing disease

View mindmap
  • preventing disease
    • being hygienic
      • using simple hygiene measures e.g. washing hands
    • destroying vectors
      • getting rid of the organisms that spread the disease
    • isolating infected individuals
      • isolation prevents them from passing the disease onto anyone else
    • vaccination
      • means they cant develop the infection and pass it on
      • (injecting small amounts of dead or inactive pathogens)
        • these carry antigens which cause your body to produce antibodies to attack
          • even though the pathogen is harmless as its dead/inactive
      • advantages; epidemics can be prevented
      • disadvantages; they don't always work, bad reactions can occur (but rarely do)
